about
It was about half a year since the band had burst into existence, and well, we'd got bored of just playing other peoples songs. We decided we needed to write our own. The feeling of absolute power and freedom of being able to make it sound however we felt like we wanted it to quickly vanished as we realised that we had no idea how to go about actually writing a song.
But, luck was with us. Chris Hill, our friend who produces/manages us (and at the time, was drumming for us also), was able to give us a crash course in song writing one band practice.
So we went away, each trying to come up with ideas to feed back to the group. Unfortunately, none of us had much skill at playing an instrument other than our own. Scratch that plan.
We were a bit annoyed at ourselves, but kept trying anyway, thinking that maybe one of us would be struck like lightning with amazing inspiration. One day, we (Dave, Matt & James) were round James' watching the film 'Moon' (2009). The film finished (a very good film we would recommend, in case you were wondering) and we sat around, wondering what to do. Someone went, 'Why don't we write a song?'. So we did.
lyrics
You've got me in a Funk,
With them things that you do.
I cannot lie to you, but this feeling so true,
Makes me sing it back to you.
You've got me in a Funk,
With the way that you move,
The way that you dance, and the way that you groove.
Makes me play it back to you.
Huh!
You've got me in a Funk,
Got my head in a spin.
I cannot break away from this feeling I'm in,
It makes me sing it back, to you now.
(Repeat Verse)
Huh!
You've got me in a Funk,
With them things that you do.
I cannot lie to you, but this feeling so true,
Makes me sing it back to you.
